Special Events at [Moving Pictures]

As part of the exhibition [Moving Pictures], FIGURE 1.A. hosted two public events in collaboration with researchers and conservation partners, inviting audiences to explore the world of orangutans and other primates through film, science, and interactive mediation.

Monkey Day Special Event

14 December 2025 — Palais de Rumine

On the occasion of Monkey Day, an afternoon programme combined documentary film, scientific research, and a guided exhibition tour.

The event opened with a screening dedicated to Borneo orangutans, followed by a lecture by primatologist Erica van de Waal (University of Lausanne). Drawing on more than 15 years of field research in South Africa, she presented her work on the behaviour, social learning, and cognitive abilities of vervet monkeys.

The programme concluded with an exclusive guided tour of Moving Pictures led by Sophia Benz, Executive Director of Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Switzerland. The tour highlighted the role of orangutans as “gardeners of the rainforest” and explored current conservation programmes protecting their habitats.

BOS Forest School — Themed Visit

7 February 2026 — Palais de Rumine

Through storytelling, hands-on experiences, and virtual reality headsets, visitors were invited to immerse themselves in the BOS Forest School and discover how orphaned orangutans are prepared for life back in the wild.

Themed as an interactive mediation session, the 30-minute visit introduced participants to the ecological importance of orangutans as “gardeners of the forest” and presented concrete ways to contribute to the protection of their habitat. The mediation team remained present in the zoology galleries throughout the afternoon for informal discussion and exchange.

The event was organised in partnership with the association Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Switzerland, and was free and open to all audiences
